Beta: A huge, gigantic thank you goes to
supplyship for helping me unravel the mess this was when I first wrote it.
A/N: I read The girl who circumnavigated fairyland in a ship of her own making, and adapted the title for this story because it seemed fitting. Concrit, as always, welcome!

A/N: Last Saturday I helped my parents stack wood, which involved throwing it up to a wood shed on the second floor (sounds weird, but it's actually a pretty ingenious design). While I stood in the rain for three hours, occupied by the mindless task of throwing wood, I came up with this. Concrit, as always, welcome.

A/N: This is actually part of a dream I had about the third Stargate movie (my dream had beginning and end credits, too), and there will probably be sequels. I blame this on reading too much dystopian fiction before bed and being entirely obsessed with Stargate. Concrit welcome!

supplyship showed me this picture. I immediately fell in love with it, stared at it for two days straight, and finally let the muses run off with it. This is just fluff, the kind you could spread on a warm toast on a cold morning, I guess. Concrit welcome!

Politics: One Town's War on Gay Teens
I read this article yesterday, which is perhaps the most comprehensive article about what's been happening in the Anoka-Hennepin school district I've read so far.
The thing is that what's happening there is happening all over the world. Bullying isn't new, it's not something that was invented yesterday. Kids have been bullied at schools since the dawn of time, but bullying has evolved over the years into what it is today. Because of sites like Facebook children these days can't simply come home from school and get away from the things that might have happened there, the things other kids might have said.
We're living in a society that likes to blame the victims of crimes instead of looking deeper and figuring out what's actually wrong. Rape victims get blamed for having dressed too sexy, women in the military get told they should expect to get raped, and gay teens get told to be straight because that'll solve all their problems.
We're telling the victims that they're the problem, that the world would be a better place if they would just lay low, if they would dress differently, act differently, if they simply fit in and didn't stick out like the proverbial square peg that doesn't fit into the round hole.
On top of that, when it comes to bullying, we're inventing policies that prevent teachers from helping. There are so many parents out there who still believe that gayness is something you catch like the flu that they'd rather not have it mentioned at all. If it's not talked about, it's not real. What this does to kids who are gay becomes obvious the minute we look at what's happening at Anoka-Hennepin.
Silence isn't the answer. Silence means that there must be truth somewhere in there, that living a gay life really is something bad. It fuels the fire, and it gives power to the bullies.
The problem is that age-old fear of the unknown, of a lifestyle that's been called every derogatory word under the sun for decades until, today, a majority of people actually believes it to be true.
Knowing that and keeping silent about it, silencing not only the kids but also the teachers, is what's killing those kids. High school is tough enough as it is. Being bullied and having to go through that alone because the adults that witness the bullying stay quiet is something no child deserves.
This society as a whole has to take responsibility for its actions, it has to stop turning away, it has to start putting the blame where it belongs, it has to change so that all kids have a fair chance of surviving high school. We're living in a world where children play rape tag in courtyards, where they're no longer reprimanded for using language that's inappropriate. We need to educate our children, we need to make sure that they know what's right or wrong. We need to make sure all children are safe.
If we can't change the way we think, if we continue to look away, we're going to continue losing kids. We can't blame the parents or the fact that these kids are gay. We have to blame ourselves for the lack of support we gave those kids, for the fact that this society as a whole still tells them that they're going to go to hell because of the lifestyle they choose.
Life does get better after high school, but we need to ensure that our kids make it through high school first, that they have the support they need to make it through the rough patches. If we can't do that we're going to continue losing children.

A/N: Way back in the dark days of 2011, I asked for story prompts, and
geekgrrllurking gave me one involving Sam's cello and the cabin/pond. It took me about six months to actually write this, and it's not as fluffy as it could have potentially been, but I like it. Set sometime in the future.

A/N: Set sometime in the future; Sam's commander of the SGC and Jack... well... Jack is Jack. This is really just some fluffy fluff with a bit of silliness thrown in for good measure. *picks feathers out of mouth* Happy Valentine's Day to those who celebrate, and happy 75%-off-heart-shaped-chocolates-day tomorrow for those who don't (but like cheap chocolate).

A/N: Set somewhere between season nine and ten, though that's not really relevant, that's just where my mind thinks it kinda fits. Cabin!fic. Unadulterated geek!smut with some plot thrown in for good measure. At least I tried before things went... down (or up?), the way such things usually tend to go. ;) No periodic tables were harmed (much) in the writing of this fic. Concrit welcome. Heh.
